Jim Leher on what PBS can do for real news

Jim Leher, anchor of PBS’ NewsHour, offered the website Big Think his views on the news (click here for video).  Here, Mr. Leher explains that PBS has blessed him with true editorial independence, free from today’s tendencies toward opinion and entertainment.  He thinks Americans are hungry for straight, dispassionate journalism, as they must now work so hard to find the facts in an ever-expanding universe of information.

What if there were a network that could offer audiences more of the real journalism that Mr. Leher champions?  Just look at BBC News and imagine what kind of local, national and international news network PBS could boast with the right funding and organization.  If 50 million citizens of the United Kingdom can fund the BBC, just think what 300 million Americans could afford!
